'Panther IR Prototype Ausf. F'

Sent in by Peter Symonds of  Nottingham UK.

The Panther, despite being the Father of the battle tank never quite met expectations and the design was constantly adjusted as the war went on. Scheduled for phased introduction throught 1945, the Panther with its newley designed 'Schmalturm' or narrow turret would have formed the backbone of the German Panzer divisions had the war in European longer.

The 'Schmalturm' turret featured a narrower mantlet and overall front profile which reduced the exposed frontal area and eleiminated a shot trap as seen in the earlier Panther turrets. The Narrower design weighted slightly less, had thicker frontal armour and was easier to produce than the Ausf G turret and provided greater overall protection.

the new turret was deisgned by Daimler Benz and was mounted on a modified Panther G hull with two prototypes being built by 1944.

When the Daimler factory just outside Berlin was captured Panther F hulls and turrets were found on the assembley line, but no complete Ausf F tanks or key components such as range finders were found. However paperwork suggest that more hulls and turrets were manufactured than captured so some may have been used as the final defence of Berlin.

This model combining a Heng Long Panther G and an Asiam Ausf F Turret is a 'what if?' project taking one of the prototype tanks, combining it with IR night sights (courtesy by Battlefrontmodels) and sending into battle in the last days of the Reich. The crewman wear 'Liebermuster' camo overalls issued in 1945 to Heer and SS Troops.

'Sturmtiger'

Sent in by Bob Abson of  Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. UK

A classic beast of a tank this Torro Sturmtiger is showing slight battle damage to the mudguards and has been tastefully tri painted and zimmerite coating applied to the lower areas. This tank could only be of a Germanic design specifically made to serve one purpose only.. bunker or block destruction.
