In The Stalingrad seige was called 'The Rat War' by the Germans this was because of two reasons, firstly that both sides lived underground safe from death and severe cold above and secondly the rats were short of food and they ate everything bodies and the wiring in the German tanks thus rendering them inoperable.

Sent in by
Andy Jones of Kinver Staffordshire UK
This is a 1/18 scale truck models from Hasbro Co. ' Indiana Jones Series' Andy has carefully re modelled and painted it to a Wehrmacht truck in a Tri Colour camo scheme, quite an affective addition to a 1:16 or 1:18 scale collection of tanks and vehicles.
Below is the origional Hasbro model before modification into a hardtop command type truck

In 1941 Georgi Shpagin designed the PPsh-41 machine pistol for the Soviet army there was an urgent need for a fast firing machine pistol in the winter war. The Russians fought a bitter winter war also in 1939 against the Finns.
The Finnish army used Machine Pistols with devistating effect in the forest landscape against the Russian forces. And complete finnish Battalians were soley equipped with these weapons as using a rifle with ski's for fast attack is prohibitive.
There are many stories where Finnish troops who under moonlight skied through Russian tented camps machine gunning the tents and any opposition, they were so ast that the Russians did not know what hit them. The Finns were brought up in winter freezing conditions and were expert snow fighters.
When the Russians decided to make war and capture more land from the Finns they sent an army of ten to one against the Finns with artillery and tanks also, the Finns did not have this volumn or types of offensive material but the Finnish troops fought them to a stalemate and in 1938 and forced the Soviets to the table the Finnish border was re adjusted to the Kariian Border.
This is still reguarded an hostile act at that time against a smaller nation who was non aggressive.
Go to YouTube and type in PPsh41 and watch one fire the cyclcal rate of fire is awsome.
